Raysync DMC Award
We are proud to announce that our solution, Raysync, has been awarded as the ‘Best Virtualisation Support’ in Data Mover Challenge (DMC) 2021 at SupercomputingAsia 2021.
About DMC
The international Data Mover Challenge (DMC) is an annual competition that aims to bring together experts from industry and academia in a bid to test their software and solutions for transferring huge amounts of research data. DMC seeks to challenge international teams to come up with the most advanced and innovative solutions for data transfer across servers located in various countries that are connected by 100Gbps international research and education networks.
The challenge focuses on optimising point-to-point data transfers between sites – a crucial step forward in advancing research collaboration and sharing. Participants from all over the world will compete by deploying the best software tools on Data Transfer Nodes (DTNs) that are set up within existing international networks across the globe.
The DMC competition is a key event of the SupercomputingAsia (SCA) conference series. Co-organised by the HPC Centers from Australia, Japan and Singapore, SCA is an annual international conference that encompasses an umbrella of notable supercomputing events with the key objective of promoting a vibrant and relevant HPC ecosystem in Asia. DMC 2021 was launched on 3 March 2021 at SCA21.

Project Overview
The setup used in DMC is illustrated below. We only used 4 dockers to complete the setup, with the ability to scale out dynamically when higher transfer speed is required.
The installation is extremely simple and straightforward, which is a breakthrough in enterprise software deployment. Raysync only requires 2-steps for installation under both Linux and Windows, and 6-steps for configuration and endpoint client installation. A total of 8-steps for the entire setup. Here’s the exact setup:
Linux
Step 1: Unzip and start running.
tar –zxvf RaySync-5.0.7.8-9476-free.tar.gz cd RaySync ./install ./start
Step 2 : Configure firewall ports.
- Admin portal: 8090-8091 (TCP)
- User portal: 9090-9091 (TCP), 2480-2481 (TCP)
- Transmission: 2442-2443 (TCP), 32001 (UDP)
- Node management: 32001 (TCP)
The installation has completed, and the Admin Portal is ready.
Login to https://<server ip>:9090/admin
Password is generated in ‘AdminInitPwd’ file under Raysync directory.
Windows
Step 1: Extract the ZIP file.
Step 2: Run the setup.bat.
The installation has completed, and the Admin Portal is ready.
Login to https://<server ip>:9090/admin with default username and password.
Customers who are using Raysync all speaking highly about the ease of working with Raysync installation and how that translate to higher productivity and lesser headache for getting the service up and running.
Besides the ease of installation, Raysync also achieved a pretty decent performance. Comparing to traditional SCP transfer, it is a 117x improvement, think about how much productivity gained and the high ROI derived for your organization by investing in Raysync solution.
We could have done more finetuning to achieve a better result, unfortunately, root access to the server is not available as part of the rules of DMC.
”Great result comes from great hard work & great teamwork!”
